Now into its 7th year, join us for the biggest and best weekend in the Spice calendar - our February Bargain Break.
This year we have secured the excellent Cairndale Hotel and Leisure Club for our exclusive use.
The Cairndale Hotel is a AA 3 Star hotel situated in the market town of Dumfries and offers exceptional accommodation and facilities for the perfect Spice weekend. At just over 1 ½ hrs from Glasgow and under 2 hrs from Edinburgh this weekend is easily accessible to all.
The Hotel: The Cairndale offers 91 en suite rooms and suites, free car parking, free Wi-Fi wireless internet access, and excellent leisure facilities.
Awarded an AA rosette for fine dining in 2003, the hotel offers one of the top dining experiences in the area. Your weekend includes a 3 course hot fork buffet dinner on Friday evening and Saturday evening 3 course sit down dinner, both evenings will be in our own exclusive function rooms. Each morning begins with a full Scottish breakfasts.
Within the hotel is the Barracuda Club Health Spa available for use throughout the weekend (all leisure facilities are included in the cost of your weekend, the beauty salon is an optional extra and not included, all beauty salon treatments can be booked in advance).
The Barracuda Club has established itself as one of the finest hotel leisure facilities of its kind in the area and recent refurbishment has added to the enjoyment of a visit to the club. Facilities include a 14 metre pool, sauna, steam room, spa pool and full centrally heated gymnasium.
The Area: Dumfries is the centre of the present day Dumfries and Galloway region and it has Neolithic and Roman origins. Lying close to the English border; the history of Dumfriesshire was often bloody and turbulent. King William the Lion made Dumfries a Royal Burgh in 1186. The "Queen of the South" as it is known, is initially viewed by the visitor as a mix of the striking traditional red sandstone and pastel coloured painted houses.
The River Nith flows through Dumfries on its way to the Solway Firth. In earlier centuries the town was a trading port for many parts of the world. Dumfries was home to Scotland's National Bard; Robert Burns, J.M. Barrie of 'Peter Pan' fame, and was the site of the murder of 'The Red' Comyn by Robert The Bruce. Castles, Neolithic cairns and stone circles and beautiful countryside abound in this area. William Wallace, Robert The Bruce, Bonnie Prince Charlie, and Robert Burns all left their mark in the History of Dumfries.
Activities: This excellent weekend is jam packed with activities to suit everyone. On Friday evening we will enjoy a private disco, Saturday evening will be one of the highlights of the weekend - a lively Spice ceilidh. VC walk leader Ina Grimson will be leading walks suitable for all on Saturday and Sunday or you can head to a local attraction on each day. (it is likely to be Burn's related on one the days). I am also delighted to welcome along Spice member, entertainer and all round nice guy Graeme Gass who will provide late night live music for us. All this and the superb Barracuda club offering pool, sauna, steam room, spa bath, beauty salon and gymnasium for our use all weekend!
An extra treat: The hotel offers two four poster suites, these are available to book but do come at a supplement. If you would like to book a suite please contact the Spice Office. The cost of a four poster suite is £30pppn.
This will be the best attended weekend of the year, come along, you'll have a great time, meet loads of great people and memories to last a lifetime.
A joining pack will be sent out 2 weeks beforehand to help with lift share planning, directions etc.
